Coroner Identifies Driver Killed In Head-On Collision On Hwy 12

Authorities identified a 43-year-old man as the driver who died.

SONOMA COUNTY, CA — The Sonoma County Sheriff-Coroner's Office identified a driver who died late last month in a head-on collision on state Highway 12 west of Santa Rosa.

Shortly after 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 29, Horacio Vigil, 43, of Santa Rosa was driving a GMC Sierra pickup truck eastbound on SR-12, just east of Irwin Lane, when he drifted into the opposing westbound lane, authorities said.

Vigil suffered fatal injuries when he collided head-on with a Chevrolet flatbed truck, the California Highway Patrol said.

The flatbed driver suffered major injuries and was taken to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital, the CHP said.

The highway was closed in both directions for more than three hours as the fatal incident was investigated.
