The CHP's preliminary investigation indicated the Mitsubishi was traveling eastbound on Highway 116 when the car drifted to the left and went into the opposite lane of traffic, directly in front of the 4-Runner, causing the crash.
The crash remained under investigation Wednesday. Officers were still trying to determine what caused the Mitsubishi to cross into the opposing lane, deRutte said.
The CHP asked anyone with pertinent information to call the Santa Rosa CHP office at 707-588-1400.
