Elderly Driver Hospitalized With Major Injuries After A Collision With A Sheriff Deputy's Vehicle: CHP
A 78-year-old was seriously injured after being hit by a Sonoma County Sheriff's K9 patrol car responding to a street racing incident: CHP.

SONOMA COUNTY — A 78-year-old Santa Rosa man was hospitalized with major injuries Sunday evening in a 2-car crash involving a Sonoma County sheriff's patrol vehicle pursuing street-racing suspects.
The accident happened on Santa Rosa Ave, just north of Mountain View Ave.
Results from the preliminary investigation found the deputy was heading south on Santa Rosa Ave with emergency lights on, trying to catch up to two cars suspected of street racing, according to the California Highway Patrol.

As the patrol vehicle neared the driveway of Friedman’s Home Improvement store, a white Ford Focus pulled out of the parking lot directly in front of it.
The deputy swerved left to avoid hitting the sedan, but collided with the front left side of the Ford.

The driver of the Ford sustained major injuries and was taken to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital.
The deputy had minor injuries and also taken to the hospital. The K9 in the patrol vehicle had minor injuries
Santa Rosa Avenue was closed to traffic in both directions until 9:15 p.m.
