Driver Distracted By Phone Triggers 5-Car Crash: Rohnert Park DPS

The chain-reaction crash shut down Golf Course Drive on Friday.

ROHNERT PARK, CA — A driver distracted by his cellphone triggered a collision involving five vehicles and caused multiple injuries in Rohnert Park Friday afternoon, public safety officials said. The driver of a BMW was heading west on Golf Course Drive West near Labath Avenue around 1 p.m. when he looked down at his cellphone, according to a preliminary report by the Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety.

The BMW struck the rear of a vehicle that was stopped at a red light on Golf Course Drive West. The driver was waiting to turn left onto Labath Drive. That set off a chain reaction of rear-end collisions with three other vehicles stopped at the same red light, according to public safety
officials.

The collisions closed Golf Course Drive West between Dowdell and Labath avenues for an hour. No serious injuries were reported and no one was taken to a hospital, public safety officials said.
