Arab Spring Organizers to Discuss Evolving Strategies March 22 at Sonoma State

Join political science Professor Cynthia Boaz at Sonoma State, Thursday, March 22 at 7 p.m., for a forum where speakers take on the uprising that has ebbed and flowed throughout the Middle East and North Africa.

The free event, titled “Arab Spring: Evolving Strategies,” is open to not only members of the campus, but anyone in the community who is interested in attending.

The symposium, presented by the campus Model United Nations Delegation, will host speakers Ahmed Salah and his fiancé Mahitab Elgilani as they share their personal experiences concerning events surrounding Egypt and the Arab world.

Salah was a key planner regarding the Egyptian uprising protests last year, while Elgilani, also a demonstrator, has been hassled and threatened by authorities. Both played a large role in aiding the protests in Tahrir Square and have come to the U.S. to share their stories.

The Model UN will also host a silent auction in conjuncture to the speakers. The event is to be held in the campus Commons, next to the bookstore at Sonoma State University.
