Farmers Market Madness: Vendors Rush to Rohnert Park
The wildly popular Friday Night Farmers Market is about half-full, market organizers said Thursday.
The city's Friday Night Farmerts Market is just a few months away, and the city's gearing up for the certified market — now in its third year.
The Farmers Market and "Party on the Plaza" is drawing vendors from throughout Sonoma and Marin counties. At last year's event, a record 175 local crafters, producers and restaurants came to the city's burgeoning City Center Plaza — which is gaining popularity as the city to build a "downtown" Rohnert Park.
Officials cheered the near City Center — no small feat in a town that's never built a vibrant core. Many real estate execs, businesses and residents agree that the city needs a stronger idenitity. And even as the commercial vacancy rate reaches 45 percent, the city is vying to build it. The Friday Night Farmers Market is just the first taste.
