Judy Sakaki Named New President Of SSU

ROHNERT PARK - Judy Sakaki has been appointed the new president of Sonoma State University by the California State University board of trustees, the CSU chancellor’s office announced Wednesday.

Sakaki will succeed president Ruben Arminana, who is retiring in June after serving as president since 1992. She will be the seventh president and second woman to serve as president in SSU’s 55-year history.

Sakaki currently is vice president of student affairs at the University of California Office of the President.

For the past nine years, she has been responsible for policies, services and initiatives regarding student access, affordability and the success of the 238,000 students on the 10 UC campuses.

Sakaki has earned a bachelor’s degree in human development and a master’s degree in educational psychology from CSU Hayward, now CSU East Bay.

She also has a doctorate in education from UC Berkeley.

Sakaki said she is honored and excited to be names SSU’s next president.

“I look forward to engaging with the faculty, staff and students at the university and with alumni, community leaders and friends throughout Sonoma County and beyond to build on the strong foundation and to guide Sonoma State University to new heights of success,” she said in a statement.
