Man Arrested In Santa Rosa Stabbing After Bystanders Restrain Him
A New Mexico man has been arrested in connection with the assault, police said.

A New Mexico man was arrested earlier this week after allegedly stabbing a person in an unprovoked attack in Santa Rosa, police said.
Officers responded at 11:48 p.m. Monday to reports of an assault in the 2300 block of Mendocino Avenue, where bystanders had restrained a suspect who had reportedly stabbed someone, according to the Santa Rosa Police Department.

When officers arrived, they took the suspect into custody and began providing first aid to the victim, who was later transported to a hospital with serious injuries. The victim's identity was not immediately released.
Witnesses told police the attacker used a pocketknife and struck the victim from behind without warning. Several bystanders intervened, disarmed the suspect, and held him until officers arrived.

Police identified the suspect as Robert Dean, 37, of New Mexico. He was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and booked into the Sonoma County Correctional Facility.
While commending the bystanders for their bravery, police cautioned the public that physically intervening in violent cases can be dangerous and should be avoided when possible.
