SANTA ROSA, CA — A Santa Rosa man was arrested after impersonating a police officer and claiming to be a bounty hunter, according to authorities.

Sonoma County sheriff’s deputies were notified July 7 that 40-year-old Gregg Jackson had been impersonating an officer, using a vehicle outfitted with red and blue emergency lights, and identifying himself as a bounty hunter, police said.

Jackson was on felony pre-trial release and was subject to a home and vehicle search under his release terms, according to police, who said the search revealed several items falsely identifying him as an officer.

“This case remains under investigation,” the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office said in a social media post. “We believe Jackson may have unlawfully acted as a Fugitive Recovery Agent in multiple states.”

Jackson, who is not licensed to operate as a fugitive recovery agent, was arrested and booked for impersonating an officer as well as two violations of pre-trial release conditions, police said, adding his bail was set at $56,000.
