Man Fatally Struck By SMART Train Near Santa Rosa

A fatal collision involving a Sonoma-Marin Area Rail Transit train occurred Wednesday morning near Santa Rosa, according to SMART.

SANTA ROSA, CA — A fatal collision involving a Sonoma-Marin Area Rail Transit train occurred Wednesday morning near Santa Rosa, according to a SMART spokesperson.

The collision occurred shortly before 11:10 a.m. near West Robles Avenue, according to SMART spokesperson Julia Gonzalez.

A man was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Sonoma County sheriff's Sgt. Juan Valencia. The name of the man has not been released.

The collision involved SMART southbound train trip 21, which departed Windsor at 10:50 a.m. and was headed toward Larkspur, Gonzalez said.

There were 45 passengers on board and two crew members. No one on the train was injured, she said.

There were significant delays throughout the morning for SMART trains, and bus shuttles took passengers between affected stations. Regular service was restored as of shortly after 2 p.m., the train agency wrote on social media.
