Man Threatens To Kill Wife, Arrested In Rohnert Park Chase: DPS

Police say the 37-year-old was intoxicated as he led officers on a high-speed pursuit through Rohnert Park neighborhoods Monday night.

ROHNERT PARK, CA β€” A Santa Rosa man was arrested Monday night after leading Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety officers on a short pursuit after allegedly threatening to kill his wife and asking officers to shoot him as he held a knife in his hand, according to police. The incident involving 37-year-old Juan Hernandez β€” who police said was intoxicated β€” began when his wife called police around 10:49 p.m. Monday to report that he allegedly told her he was coming from a location in Santa Rosa to their residence in Rohnert Park to kill her.

According to police, officers spotted Hernandez's truck in the area of the Rohnert Park Expressway and Commerce Boulevard around 11:24 p.m.

After following it for a short time, officers attempted a traffic stop, but Hernandez sped away, police said.

Hernandez drove to the victim's residence, according to police, where he sat in his truck with a black gun that was later identified as an airsoft pistol. Police said despite numerous commands from officers for Hernandez to drop the gun, he threw it out the vehicle's window and sped away at a high rate of speed.

Police said Hernandez led them on a high-speed pursuit, ignoring traffic lights and stop signs through neighborhoods before returning back to the victim's residence.

Once back at the residence, Hernandez allegedly stepped out of the truck with a knife in his hands while yelling at officers to shoot him.

Police said an officer used a Taser to detain the suspect.

Hernandez was taken to a hospital before being booked into the Sonoma County Jail on suspicion of domestic violence, criminal threats, threatening a police officer, evading police and driving under the influence.

His bail is currently $260,000, according to Sonoma County Jail records.
