Mercedes-Benz Catches Fire, Briefly Threatens Santa Rosa Home

Firefighters used a special foam to put out the flames before the structure was damaged, a fire official said.

SANTA ROSA, CA β€” A vehicle fire was difficult for Santa Rosa firefighters to extinguish this morning because gasoline in the car started to burn as firefighters started their work, fire officials said. Crews responded at 11:16 a.m. to a home at 843 Trowbridge St. where a 1990 Mercedes Benz was on fire in the driveway.

The fire grew in intensity as the gas started to burn. Fire officials said the fire threatened a structure but
firefighters using special foam put out the fire before the structure was damaged.

Crews placed pads down to absorb any gas from the vehicle.

City street crews placed booms around storm drains.

Fire officials said the owner of the car told them he started it in the driveway and a short time later it was on fire.

The man was unable to extinguish it and called 911. Fire officials said no one was injured in the fire.

The cause is under investigation, but fire officials consider it to be accidental.

Damage was estimated to be $2,000.
