Nearly A Dozen Arrests Made During DUI Checkpoint In Sonoma County
Police conducted a drunken driving and driver's license checkpoint Friday in Santa Rosa that resulted in several arrests and citations.

SONOMA COUNTY, CA -- Nearly a dozen people were arrested for various offenses when police conducted a drunken driving and driver's license checkpoint over the weekend in Santa Rosa, police said.
According to officials from the Santa Rosa Police Department, the checkpoint occurred from 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 31 until 2 a.m. Saturday, April 1 on state Highway 12 and Streamside Drive.
During the checkpoint, police screened 1,590 vehicles and arrested two people on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol who were identified as 60-year-old Mary Russell and 72-year-old Jacqueline Simons, both of Santa Rosa, police said.

Police also cited and arrested eight people on suspicion of operating a vehicle without a license or with a suspended or revoked license, police said.
Additionally, one person was arrested for an outstanding warrant and five citations were issued for miscellaneous vehicle code violations, police said.

According to police, DUI and driver's license checkpoints have been shown to lower DUI deaths and injuries. Santa Rosa police said officers will be conducting checkpoints and patrols regularly.
