SANTA ROSA, CA β€” A person remained in critical condition early Wednesday morning after they were hit by a car at a Santa Rosa intersection, police said.

Around 11:08 p.m. Tuesday, Santa Rosa police officers and emergency medical personnel were sent to the intersection of Sebastopol Road and Dutton Avenue where a pedestrian had been struck by a car, SRPD Sgt. Summer Gloeckner said.

Dispatchers received several calls about a pedestrian lying unconscious in the roadway after being hit by a silver BMW. Officers found the pedestrian lying in a northbound lane of Dutton Avenue, just north of the intersection with Sebastopol Road.

Officers found the silver BMW stopped on the side of the road with major front-end damage.

The driver was still at the scene as the pedestrian was taken by ambulance to a local hospital with critical injuries, Gloeckner said.

The BMW driver was cooperative when interviewed by accident investigators, Gloeckner said. There was no indication the driver was under the influence of alcohol or drugs, and speed did not appear to be a factor, she said.

It was unclear whether the pedestrian was in the crosswalk, but it did appear the BMW had the right of way with a green light, Gloeckner said.

The investigation was ongoing.

Police were not releasing the names of the driver or pedestrian.

"The pedestrian remains in critical condition with life-threatening injuries," Gloeckner said late Tuesday.

Police asked anyone with information regarding the investigation to contact Officer John Fisher.
