Police Search Homeless Camps In Sonoma County; Risks To Community Sought

Police searched dozens of homeless encampments in Santa Rosa on Friday, looking for people on probation and others who might pose a risk.

SONOMA COUNTY, CA -- Police searched dozens of homeless encampments in Santa Rosa on Friday, looking for people on probation and others who might pose a risk to the public, according to police officials.

Officers searched roughly 70 camps in order to conduct compliance checks on felony probation subjects that are considered "high-risk," police officials said.

They also searched for post-release community supervision subjects who listed their residency as "transient," police said.

During the searches, police say about 15 people were contacted and officers initiated 13 searches. One person was arrested on suspicion of a probation violation and four were cited and released for possession of drug paraphernalia and warrants, police said.
