Rohnert Park Sees Uptick In 'Smash-And-Grab' Crimes

Police reminded the public to not leave valuables in plain sight and to lock their car doors, windows and sunroof.

ROHNERT PARK, CA — There has been an increase in calls for service related to car break-ins and smash-and-grab crime in the Rohnert Park area, the Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety said this week.

Since the beginning of the year, police said, there have been 17 reports of this type of activity in various neighborhoods, business parks, and public spaces where thieves can "blend in" but perform their criminal activity in broad daylight.

As a preventive reminder, police said, all valuables should be kept out of sight in cars and people should always lock their car doors, windows and sunroofs. Loose change, garage door openers (for thieves to use at another time), and any bags, especially purses, briefcases, computer cases, and packages, should never be left in the open, police said.
