Rohnert Park Man Arrested In Christmas Day Hit-and-Run Collision: Video

Police arrested a suspect from Rohnert Park in the Christmas Day hit-and-run that left two people critically injured.

ROHNERT PARK-COTATI, CA β€” Police arrested a suspect in the Christmas Day hit-and-run that left two people critically injured.

Ryan Hughes, a 49-year-old resident of Rohnert Park, was arrested at a local motel in Santa Rosa on Saturday evening, Santa Rosa Police Department spokesman Sgt. Josh Medeiros said in a statement on social media.

The collision happened at 4th Street and Bryden Lane in Santa Rosa on Thursday, about 6:36 p.m.
Witnesses reported that the collision involved a Chevrolet Suburban and a Volkswagen Beetle.

Witnesses said the Volkswagen Beetle's occupants were trapped and had significant injuries from the collision. The Suburban's driver fled before police arrived, leaving the vehicle behind, Medeiros said.
The driver of the Volkswagen Beetle, a 71-year-old male, and the passenger, a 72-year-old female, were transported to a local hospital with critical injuries.

Hughes was arrested after police traffic investigators identified him as the driver of the Suburban.
Hughes was on Post-Release Community Supervision from a prior arrest, according to Medeiros.

Hughes was taken to the Sonoma County Jail and charged with a hit and run causing great bodily injury, and violating the post-release community supervision.
