School Board to Discuss the Expenditure of Nearly $1 Million of Special State Funding

The school board has to come up with a plan to spend $950,000 in state funds.

The Cotati-Rohnert Park Board of Trustees have a postiive problem to deal with during Thursday's special meeting.

The trustees will discuss how to spend special state funds, Common Core State Standards, designed to improve school districts throughout the state. As part of the deal however, they need to formulate a plan as to how the money will flow through the district.

If the school board members can agree to the plan, the district will be the beneficiary of $950,000. The funding must be used for either professional development for teachers, administrators, paraprofessional instructors or other certified staff who teach students; instructional materials for students; or to provide the school with better computers or high-speed bandwidth so that the school can implement academic content standards.

So far, the plan calls for $358,000 for professional development; $442,000 for instructional materials and $150,000 for technology.

The plan will be presented to the board for review, discussion and direction on Thursday, at 5 p.m., at Mt. Shadows Educational Center, 7165 Burton Ave., Rohnert Park.
