Sonoma State University Professor Daniel Crocker Receives Wang Family Excellence Award

ROHNERT PARK, CA — Professor of Biology Daniel Crocker was recognized as one of the 2024 recipients of The Wang Family Excellence Awards in the category of Outstanding Faculty Scholarship The awards, announced January 30, celebrate CSU faculty members “who have distinguished themselves through extraordinary dedication and exemplary achievements in their academic disciplines, while significantly contributing to the success of students.”

Crocker’s award cites his, “nearly unparalleled record on campus for successful research funding, bringing in nearly $8 million in capacity-building, and transforming the university's biology program,” and his commitment to mentoring and training students.

Crocker was also lauded for his role in developing the master's program in biology at Sonoma State, getting funding to support paid research for graduate students, and recruiting undergraduates, many of whom are first-generation college graduates, including McNair, Sally Casanova, and Koret scholars from underserved communities.

“I give credit to the over 40 graduate students and hundreds of undergraduates that worked on the research projects. Their passion, enthusiasm and willingness to work long hours and try new things are directly responsible for my research productivity and success,” Crocker said.
