Three Killed In Two Valentine's Day Crashes

The CHP says a car crashes into a tree at high speed, bursts into flames, and kills two. A separate crash kills a fleeing motorcyclist.

ROHNERT PARK - Multiple people died early Sunday morning after two separate accidents near Rohnert Park, according to a California Highway Patrol officer.

Around 1:00 a.m. on Valentine’s Day, the CHP responded to reports of a vehicle on state Highway 1 near Doran Beach Road in the Bodega Bay area, according to officer Jonathan Sloat. Sloat said it appeared the vehicle had been traveling at a high speed before crashing into a tree and bursting into flames.

Upon further investigation, Sloat said officers found two bodies inside the vehicle.

At the same time in the early morning, a CHP unit observed a motorcycle on northbound U.S. Highway 101 near state Highway 116 in Cotati.

Sloat said after the license plate was ran, officers found that the motorcycle was reported stolen and attempted to make an enforcement stop.

CHP officials said the driver fled westbound on SR 116 and lost control at Old Gravenstein Highway before crashing into a fence.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

Both of the incidents are under investigation, and no further information has been released.
