SANTA ROSA, CA — A commercial structure fire Wednesday night in Santa Rosa caused $40,000 to a business suite but crews prevented it from spreading to other suites that house the U.S. Armed Forces Recruiting Center, fire officials said.

The Santa Rosa Fire Department got a 911 call at 6:43 p.m. Wednesday that smoke was coming from a rear roll-up door of a building at Santa Rosa Avenue and Yolanda Avenue.

Firefighters were on the scene within 5 minutes and found black smoke coming from the roof line, main door and roll-up door of a suite in a single-story commercial building that houses the U.S. Armed Forces Recruiting Center and California State Restoration Company.

Several fire crews forced entry into the back suite and found a fire burning inside with heavy smoke to the floor, Santa Rosa FD Battalion Chief Matthew Gloeckner said.

Firefighters searched for any possible occupants of the suite occupied by California State Restoration Company but found no one inside.

Additional firefighters ascended to the roof where they cut a hole to relieve smoke and heat.

Crews quickly knocked down the fire and prevented it from spreading to the rest of the building.

Damages were estimated at $40,000. The entire suite had heavy damage from smoke and from firefighting efforts, and there was moderate damage to a vehicle parked inside the garage of the suite, Gloeckner said.

There were no injuries in the fire.

Once the blaze was out, the U.S. Armed Forces Recruiting Center was able to reoccupy its suites in the front part of the building.
