2-Acre Dog Park May Be Coming Soon to West Roseville

The proposed park could cost between $100K and $450K depending on amenities.

Soon, West Roseville residents might not have to travel to Bear or Marco dog parks to let their dogs off-leash in Roseville.

Roseville City Councilmembers approved a site proposal for a 2-acre dog park that will be located in a central location within west Roseville, off of Westpark Drive, across from a proposed sports complex and south of the Waste Water Treatment Plant.

This proposed dog park site was determined after councilmembers removed the dog park from the West Roseville Specific Plan for a school and park site, site W-53, back in December, the Roseville Press Tribune reports. Some residents complained that the original site was too close to homes and would create too much noise and odor, according to the PT.

During the April 18 Roseville City Council meeting, councilmembers unanimously approved the alternate fenced-in, off-leash dog park site proposal.

Dominick Casey, the Roseville Parks, Recreation and Libraries director, said this new site meets criteria set forth by council. It is approximately 825 feet away from the closest residence and is walking distance from the school and park W-53 site.

The 2-acre dog park could cost between $100,000 and $450,000 depending on the type of amenities, Roseville Senior Landscape Architect Tara Gee told council. Gee said the cost approximately $350,000 to $400,000, not including the parking lot.

Funding for this proposed park will come from the City-Wide Park Fund, as this dog park will be a city park, not a neighborhood park, Gee said. The General Fund would cover maintenance funds, which could amount to about $10,000 a year, according to city documents.

The concept plan for the dog park includes separate areas for large and small dogs and a parking lot with about 25-30 spots.
