Crime Watch: Recycling Trailer Robbery, Arrest Made Linked to Recent Thefts

Man Robs Recycling Trailer, Punches Employee

At about 10:40 a.m. Friday, Sept. 16, a 48-year-old Orangevale man was arrested after he allegedly robbed the recycling trailer in the Bel Air shopping center at the corner of Sunrise and Cirby.  The robber took money from the business and stuffed it into a backpack, punched one of the recycling center employees in the face, then rode away on a bicycle.

Minutes later the Roseville Police Department communication center received calls from Cirby Ranch residents of a man running through backyards and jumping fences.  Officers located and apprehended the suspect in the 1300 block of Rolling Hills Drive.  Officers located the money and returned it to the business.  The suspect was arrested on suspicion of robbery, and is being held in the Placer County Jail on $195,000 bail.

Man Arrested, Believed to Be Linked to Recent Thefts

An Antelope man was arrested and several stolen items believed to be from August and September vehicle burglaries in Roseville and Lincoln were found in the suspect’s car.

Shortly after midnight Sunday morning, Sept. 18, officers responded to a citizen's report of a person acting suspiciously in a hotel parking lot in the 100 block of North Sunrise Avenue.  The first officer on scene found the suspect breaking into a utility truck. The suspect briefly struggled with the officer, then climbed a fence and fled on foot into the nearby greenbelt area alongside the freeway.  Officers searched the area and with the help of CHP's fixed-wing airplane located the suspect hiding near the Douglas overpass. 

Officers searched the suspect's car, which had been reported stolen from Folsom, and found a loaded handgun and several items of stolen property from other August and September vehicle burglaries in Roseville and the City of Lincoln. The 26-year-old Antelope man was arrested on suspicion of vehicle theft, burglary, being a felon in possession of a loaded gun, and other related charges.  He's in custody in the Placer County Jail on $120,000 bail.

Golf Store Robbed, Clubs Taken

At 12:26 a.m. on Sept. 16, officers responded to a burglary alarm at a golf equipment store in the 5700 block of Fire Star Boulevard.  The unknown burglars smashed the front door glass and entered, taking about 30 golf clubs. Two suspects were seen, a white male wearing a red, white and blue baseball hat, black shirt, blue jeans, and a second suspect wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans.

Sunday, Sept. 11

Between Sept. 11 and 14, a home in the 2400 block of Julliard Circle was burglarized. A skateboard, DVDs and CDs, a video game console, a Halloween costume and other items were taken.  There was no sign of forced entry.

Monday, Sept. 12

Sometime between 10:30 a.m. and noon on Sept. 12, a home in the 1300 block of Blossom Hill Way was burglarized while the resident was out. The unknown burglar went through an unlocked side gate into the backyard, then through the unlocked side door to the garage, then pried the door between the garage and the house.  The suspect or suspects rummaged through the house and took a jewelry box containing costume jewelry.  A neighbor reported seeing an older white Toyota Camry sedan parked in the area during the same time frame as the burglary.  The driver was described as a heavy-set white male with a shaved or bald head.

Wednesday, Sept. 14

Sometime between 4:15 p.m. and 8 p.m. on Sept. 14, a home in the 1700 block of Atwell Street was burglarized.  The burglar possibly entered through an unlocked rear sliding glass door. The unknown burglar ransacked the house and took video game players, video games, other electronics and jewelry.

Friday, Sept. 16

Between 10:45 p.m. on Sept. 16 and 10 a.m. on Sept. 17, someone entered a shared garage building at an apartment complex in the 1200 block of Antelope Creek Drive and took camping chairs and other small items. Someone had left a garage door open.

Sometime over the weekend, an unknown burglar entered an apartment in the 1100 block of Conroy Lane while the resident was gone and took electronics and jewelry. Entry was possibly made by prying the back-slider.

Between 7:20 a.m. and 4:45 p.m. on Sept. 16, a home in the 1600 block of Roadrunner Drive was burglarized.  The unknown burglar broke a lock on the side gate to enter the backyard, entered the garage through a large dog door and then pried the door between the garage and the house to get in.  Video game consoles and video games, a laptop and other electronics were taken.

Between 9 a.m. and 11:45 a.m. on Sept. 16, a home in the 2600 block of Waterford Glen Circle was burglarized.  The unknown burglar went through the side gate into the backyard, then entered the house through an unlocked window.  Cameras, laptop computers and other electronics and jewelry were taken.  Two suspicious vehicles were seen cruising the area during the same time frame:  a white full-size panel van, and a newer silver or champagne-colored Toyota Camry sedan.
