24 Computers Stolen from Cooley Middle School, Pair Arrested
A man and woman were arrested on suspicion of burglary after allegedly breaking into Cooley Middle School’s computer lab on two separate occasions and stealing equipment. The first incident, on June 20 around 10:15 p.m., resulted in nine stolen computers and no arrests. The second incident, on June 16 around 10:18 p.m., turned out a bit different. Officers responding to the school alarm stopped an SUV being driven off the campus, and found 15 computers stacked in the back. Turns out they were from the school computer lab, which had again been broken into. The driver, a 24-year-old man from Tracy, was arrested on suspicion of committing both burglaries. His suspected accomplice, a 22-year-old woman from Roseville, was found on foot in the area and also arrested on suspicion of the burglaries. Officers weren't able to recover the nine computers from the first burglary and believe the suspects had already sold them.

Phone Scam Targets Sun City Grandparents
On June 28, a Sun City resident received a call from a male claiming to be his grandson. The male claimed he had been involved in a traffic collision in Mexico and needed money wired to him to pay for a lawyer. The resident wired the money to Mexico. The next day the male called again and asked for additional money for legal expenses, and the victim again wired money. Shortly after that, the victim talked to his real grandson, who hadn't made the calls and the scam was reported to police.
According to Roseville Police, this "grandparent scam" is very common. Scam artists will call older people claiming to be a grandchild or other young relative. They will usually claim to be in trouble out of state or in another country. They will plead for their "grandparent" to wire them money and to not tell their parents about the problem. Often they will have their victim call other accomplices, who will claim to be police officers, jailers or lawyers and will corroborate their stories. Don't wire money-once you've wired it and it's been picked up at the other end, you can't get it back. If a young relative calls claiming to be in trouble, get a call back number and then call them at their regular home number, or call other relatives to verify their story. Never commit large amounts of money to any scheme without talking it over first with trusted family members or friends.
