Hobby Lobby on Track to Open Oct. 24

A chain craft store is under construction in the former Mervyns building on Douglas Boulevard in Roseville.

Doors to , are expected to open Monday, Oct. 24 in Roseville.

The Oklahoma City-based chain is set to open one of its newest stores in the former Mervyns building in the Placer Center Plaza Shopping Center on Douglas Boulevard. Mervyns announced it would close its stores in 2008 and since then the large building has been vacant, but not for long.

With its opening, Hobby Lobby is expected to hire at least 60 employees at $8.50 to $12 an hour. According to Vincent Parker with Hobby Lobby Stores, Inc., the company typically hires between 30-50 local employees, but in Roseville they’re hiring more because of this larger location. Stores average 55,000-square-feet in size.

The Roseville location is one of a handful of other state-wide Hobby Lobby locations set to open soon.   

“Roseville is just 20 miles northeast of Sacramento, a major and vibrant city, making it an ideal location for a new Hobby Lobby store,” said John Schumacher, Assistant Vice President of Advertising in a release.

It’s a craft and home décor store that sells more than 65,000 products in its stores. The store is broken into 13 sections: Floral, fabric, needlework, frames (custom and ready made), art, hobbies, wearable's, jewelry, crafts, cards and party, scrapbooking, seasonal and home accents.
