New Venues, Changes Coming to 3rd Saturday Art Walk Revival

Two locals hope to bring life back to Roseville's 3rd Saturday Art Walk.

Don’t let the wet weather stop you from checking out Roseville’s this weekend.

Not only is it set for St. Patrick’s Day, organizers are unveiling some new venues, contests and changes in an effort to revive the walk.

Chelsea Johnson, owner of , has taken over the art walk planning, along with Laura Hillen. Johnson said they have big plans for Roseville’s walk in the coming months and by June, they hope to have “all the kinks worked out,” Johnson said.

They’re taking notes on the popular Second Saturday art walk in Sacramento, but Johnson said they plan to “keep it art and music centered in Roseville.”

Until June, Johnson said they hope to continue to add new venues to the lineup, expand the walk to include outdoors, sidewalk chalk art, and possibly live bands outdoors.

The walk website has also been revamped and will be constantly updated with the latest venues.

What’s new with the walk for March?

Some of the biggest changes you’ll notice will be more venues, live music at multiple locations and a scavenger hunt geared toward getting people to check out multiple venues.

, Not Always New, , Reinvent Clothing Boutique and Proven Business Services are the new additions to March’s walk. Venues will not only showcase local artists, but some will also feature local musicians, food and an opportunity to purchase local artwork.

At Reinvent Clothing Boutique on Vernon Street, they’re planning a fashion show as well, Johnson said.

At Beatnik Books in Old Town Roseville, they’ll feature artist Melissa Netherwood and her “AstroSpace” oil paintings and live music from the band Thomas & Plecker.

An art walk scavenger hunt

Each venue will house an answer to a scavenger hunt clue and it’s art walkers’ job to find and submit five correct answers to qualify to win. Clues will be posted on the walk website and Facebook page and must be submitted here by 9:30 p.m. March 17. You can also submit your answers to Beatnik Books, also by 9:30 p.m. Saturday.

The winner will get a free membership to Blue Line Gallery, Johnson said.

A creative photo contest

Photographers are encouraged to snap as many photos as they like of the art walk and submit 10 to qualify for their first creative photography contest.

Entries must include at least 10 photos from a minimum of three 3rd Saturday Art Walk venues during Saturday’s event. Photos can be of food, walkers, artists, musicians — anything that catches your eye during the walk. The winning photo will be published in TAAC Attack magazine and the winner will receive gift cards to local businesses.

Snap away and submit your photos via email to 3rdsatartwalk@gmail.com or post on the Facebook page wall by 8 p.m. March 21. The winner will be announced March 23.
