reCREATE Relocating to New Larger Site
A Roseville nonprofit that teaches children that trash can turn to treasure, is moving from downtown to a more industrial location.

Almost as soon as moved into its current Vernon Street location, Executive Director Donna Sangwin said they outgrew it. Now, almost two years later, the nonprofit organization is moving – this time to a space almost double the size.
The 1,600-square-foot Vernon Street location doesn’t leave much wiggle room when the center holds birthday parties, Sangwin said. Their new 3,200-square-foot location on Washington Boulevard, which they’ll open Oct. 1, will make room for holding simultaneous classes and parties while visitors shop.
“This will allow us to have more birthday parties, more art classes,” Sangwin said.

reCREATE launched in 2008 as a way to teach kids that everyday objects, once-viewed as “trash,” can turn into something creative. Through art classes, the nonprofit staff teaches kids that empty water bottles, scraps of fabric and buttons can transform into a farm animal, robot or underwater creature with a little imagination.
reCREATE also recently partnered with the Sacramento Children’s Museum in Rancho Cordova. They’ll have a “mini reCREATE shop at the museum, Sangwin said.

In their new location, they also plan to kick off two new classes – one combining science experiments with art projects and another teaching girls how to hand stitch and create crafts with yarn, among other things.
Sangwin said they don’t expect any downtime during the move and will remain open on Vernon Street until Oct. 1. Sangwin said she welcomes a helping hand (or many hands) with the move. To volunteer your moving expertise, e-mail donna@recreate.org.
