Resident’s Mission: Eat Through Roseville

Sean Carter has started a blog chronicling his undertaking to eat at more than 200 restaurants in Roseville.

Sean Carter is on a mission that involves consuming mass amounts of food. From burgers and Thai to pizza and kebabs, his goal is to try it all by eating at every restaurant in Roseville.

Carter, a 15-year Roseville resident, started this mission about a month ago and has sampled six eateries so far: Hot Dog King, , Swagat Indian Bistro, , and most recently Bo Bo Café.

His list is long and includes more than 200 delis, restaurants, diners, bistros and cafes in the city, which he said he hopes to taste-test within about two years.

The idea started after Carter got into somewhat of a food rut: always coming back to the same restaurants, ordering the same thing off the menu.

“There are so many little tiny delis; tiny, little hole-in-the-wall places I’ve heard of. I’ve driven by these places for 15 years,” Carter said.

Some he had never tried, but heard good things about. That’s when Carter got the idea of Eating Through Roseville, his blog, where he’s sharing his experience at the restaurants through his opinions and photos.

His goal is to “discover some real gems” in Roseville and share them with others.

On his blog introduction, he wrote: “Although I consider myself to be a fairly adventurous person (as in I’ll eat anything, at least once), my discovery of new food tended to be hampered by general laziness. That all ends here. There are so many little places hidden around Roseville that I’ve never even noticed before. Many of these might be amazing, and I intend to find out.”

Of his lengthy list of eateries, Carter said there are a few he’s especially excited to try, including , and – specifically its “candied BLTA with bacon marmalade, that he said “has been calling my name for some time now.”

Carter’s restaurants-to-try list includes Smashburger, , , AJ’s Casual Eatery, , and hundreds more. While he plans to sample them all, he does have two guidelines he’s following: if it’s a chain restaurant, he will only test out a single location; and he is skipping the major fast food chains entirely.

By day, Carter is an electrical engineer, but come meal-time, he’s a foodie, chronicling his dining-out experiences in Roseville. Check out his Eating Through Roseville blog to follow his adventures of eating his way through the city.
