, passed away over the weekend due to a medical condition.
Drago was a German shepherd who served as a Roseville Police K9 with Officer Ron Goodpaster for about five years.
Last summer, Roseville Patch spoke with shortly before Drago retired early because of a genetic disease. Drago was diagnosed with degenerative myelopathy, which is essentially multiple sclerosis for dogs, Goodpaster said. Degenerative myelopathy is a disease where the immune system attacks the lining of the spinal cord and eventually causes the dog to lose control of its hindquarter.

In a brief Facebook note from the Foothills K9 Association, they announced Drago's passing: "Ron said, he was a great Police dog and a true best friend. His short retirement was filled with love at home, though he much rather would have been at work. Drago served the city well, and we kept each other safe in many dangerous situations. Unfortunately, I could not keep him safe from disease."
