Roseville Council to Pick Design for New Downtown Bridges

Roseville residents should know by the end of this week what three new bridges that will connect downtown with Royer Park will look like.

Officials are planning to replace a bridge near the Main Library, build a bridge from the library to downtown, extend the Oak Street bridge and trail, and grade the site of Fire Station No. 1.

The Roseville City Council is scheduled to pick between two design firms for the $4 million project at its meeting Wednesday. Its choices are the Roseville firm KPFF Consulting Engineers and San Jose-based Mark Thomas & Company, Inc.

The project's Selection Committee is recommending the council choose Mark Thomas & Company because its design more closely matches the New Deal-era Works Progress Administration architecture called for in plans for downtown Roseville, according to a staff report. The committee also preferred Mark Thomas & Company's trail plans.

Construction on the project would begin in 2014 or 2015, depending on how long it takes to get federal and state permits, the staff report states.
