Today in Roseville: Gas Leak, Veteran Stand Down

A quick look into what's going on in Roseville today, plus a bit of news outside of the city.

There are a couple things to be aware of in Roseville today – first, a gas leak fire erupted last night; and second, an event aiding homeless veterans continues today at the fairgrounds.

Inside the Patch:

Gas Leak – Last night a in the middle of the street at Riverside Avenue and Cirby Way. Crews are on scene trying to cap the leak, according to Roseville Police. The cause of the leak is still under investigation. Cirby Way and Riverside Avenue in Roseville are now open in all directions, police said.

Veteran Stand Down – Through Thursday, the Placer County Veteran Stand Down has a mission to help veterans. It’s a grassroots program aimed at helping veterans, service men and women and an estimated 107,000 homeless veterans. The event, held at the , is open to all military and families. According to the Placer County Veteran Stand Down website, there are 631 homeless people in Placer County; of those, 63 are homeless veterans – about half are sheltered and in transition while about half are not. Deadly Cantaloupes – More than a dozen people have died from a possible listeria illness tied to cantaloupes from Colorado, according to The Huffington Post. They say this is the deadliest food outbreak in more than 10 years. Deaths have reportedly occurred in all over the country – in the states of Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, Texas, Colorado, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Maryland. You can read more here.
