Cost-savings measures are all around us these days. Here's two - one in Placer County and another in South Dakota - ways that agencies are looking to save some money.
Inside the Patch:
I-80 Ramp Closure – I-80 travelers be aware: The Taylor Road on-ramp to westbound I-80 is closed for construction. The ramp will be closed through 5 a.m. Friday, Aug. 26. If you rely on this ramp to get on the interstate, there are signed detours.

According to the City of Roseville, this work is part of construction of more than 5 miles of new bus and carpool lanes between Sacramento and Placer counties line and Eureka Road. The $54-million project completion is scheduled for later this year.
Limited Court Service – In an effort to save approximately $500,000, Placer County Superior Court staff are proposing to limit service 12 days starting Nov. 21, according to an article in the Sacramento Bee. Shorter School Week? – Students in a school district in South Dakota now get a three-day weekend every week. It saves the Irene-Wakonda School District in southeastern South Dakota about $50,000, according to a report on MSNBC. The district’s response to the state budget cuts is cutting Friday classes off of the schedule. What do you think about this idea?
