📰 News we're reading

• Do you waste 25 hours a year in Sacramento traffic? A report says you might (sacbee.com) — Sacramento-area drivers are losing about 25 hours and roughly $460 a year sitting in traffic, according to a new global congestion report. Researchers say local rush-hour speeds into downtown have slowed, and highlight Watt Avenue and other key corridors while noting that widening freeways rarely fixes congestion long-term. The findings could influence future transportation and climate decisions in and around the capital.

• Man arrested as suspect in Broadway and Stockton homicide, Sacramento police say (sacbee.com) — Sacramento police have arrested a 23-year-old local man in connection with a deadly assault at the busy Broadway and Stockton Boulevard intersection earlier this month. Investigators say the victim, a 60-year-old Sacramento resident, initially appeared to be hit by a vehicle but was later determined to have died from an intentional attack, and the suspect now faces a murder charge.

• Sacramento's Santa Parade continues to march along (kcra.com) — Downtown streets around the Capitol are filling with marching bands, civic groups, and Santa this morning as Sacramento’s 42nd annual Santa Parade steps off. Organizer Laurie Hensley says the long-running tradition has survived funding and weather challenges because families treasure the chance to see local youth groups show off their year-round practice.
