New recuperative care center opens in North Sacramento, filling gap for unhoused people leaving the hospital (capradio.org) — Sacramento’s largest recuperative care center has just opened in North Sacramento, giving unhoused residents leaving local hospitals a safe place to heal instead of returning to the streets. The Community Care Center offers 50 beds, on-site medical staff, behavioral health support, and housing help, with plans to expand to 130 beds by March.
   

2. Pursuit of stolen dump truck from Roseville ends with Highway 50 crash in Sacramento (sacbee.com) — A stolen dump truck pursuit that began in Roseville ended with the vehicle overturning on eastbound Highway 50 in Sacramento, blocking two left lanes near the 51st Street overpass during the Wednesday evening commute. CHP officers detained the driver, who is being booked into Sacramento County Main Jail, and the crash happened just yards from October’s fatal medical helicopter crash site.
   

3. Man injured in north Sacramento shooting and crash, police say (kcra.com) — A man was shot and injured near El Camino Avenue and Princeton Street in north Sacramento on Wednesday, and police say a related crash briefly closed part of El Camino for about an hour. The victim was hospitalized in stable condition, and officers have not released any suspect information as the investigation continues.
   

4. Downtown Sacramento Partnership expands boundaries to boost opportunities (kcra.com) — Downtown Sacramento’s business district just expanded from 66 to 102 blocks, now stretching from the Railyards to the Crocker Art Museum and Old Sacramento waterfront. Leaders say the larger footprint will support more events, nightlife, and unified marketing to attract visitors and new businesses as downtown continues its post-pandemic transition.
   

5. Lottery hopefuls return to Sacramento store that sold nearly $2M Powerball ticket (kcra.com) — A South Land Park liquor store in Sacramento is drawing long lines of hopeful Powerball players after selling a nearly $2 million winning ticket, just as the jackpot surges to $1.25 billion. Regulars and first-timers alike are flocking back, convinced Lichine’s Liquor Store might be their lucky spot for the next massive drawing.
