14-Year-Old Dies After ​North County Hit-And-Run

A 911 caller saw the victim unconscious in the street and heard a vehicle speeding away from the scene, police said.

ESCONDIDO, CA — A 14-year-old boy died Monday after being struck by a vehicle in a hit-and-run collision less than two weeks ago in northern San Diego County, authorities said Tuesday.

The crash happened shortly before 9:30 p.m. Aug. 8 in the 1100 block of North Fig Street in Escondido, according to the Escondido Police Department. A 911 caller saw the victim unconscious in the street and heard a vehicle speeding away from the scene.

The Escondido boy, who may have been on a skateboard when he was struck, was taken to a hospital where he died Monday, police said. His name was not released.

Investigators were working to identify the suspect.

"Investigators with the Escondido Police Department's Traffic and Investigations divisions continue to investigate this crime," the department said in a news release.
