Amazon Fresh To Open First Store In San Diego County

SAN DIEGO, CA — Amazon Fresh is opening its first store in San Diego County.

The region's first-ever Amazon Fresh store is scheduled to open its doors Nov. 7 in Poway.

The roughly 44,500-square-foot store will feature a wide selection of national brands, produce and protein, as well as Amazon's private-label brands such as Aplenty, Amazon Fresh, Amazon Saver, and 365 by Whole Foods Market. According to Amazon, the store will also offer more than 500 regional brands and favorites, including Food for Life, Have'A Corn Chips and Pizza Port.

"Amazon already has a large online grocery business and millions of products available for fast delivery," Amazon spokesperson Griffin Buch told Patch. "If you want to serve as many grocery needs as we do, you have to offer customers great selection, value and convenience — not just online, but in physical stores too."

The new Amazon Fresh store will feature the company's latest brick-and-mortar design unveiled last year in select Chicago and Southern California stores.

The company currently has 55 Amazon Fresh stores across the country, including 22 stores in California. The first California store opened in 2020 in Woodland Hills in the San Fernando Valley region of Los Angeles.

Buch didn't have any details on future stores in the San Diego region, but said Amazon will selectively open new Amazon Fresh stores as the company receives positive customer feedback on the new format, as well as continue to open new Whole Foods Market stores.

The Poway store will be open from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily at 14837 Pomerado Road.
