Authorities Search For Missing Toddler From San Diego To Florida

Lugo was only a year old in August 2023 when his mother, Dirce Sampo, moved cross-country from Clay County, Florida, to San Diego.

SAN DIEGO, CA — Authorities asked for the public's help Thursday in finding a toddler who was taken from his Florida home to the San Diego area in 2023.

Camilo Lugo was 1 year old when he went missing on Aug. 9, 2023, from Clay County, Florida, according to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children.

Officials said the boy's mother, Dirce Sampo, moved him out of state without permission from his father. The parents reportedly shared custody of Lugo, who is now 3 years old.

Sampo was charged on suspicion of parental abduction after failing to return the boy to his father, investigators said.

It was believed that Sampo could be in Mexico and may be traveling back and forth over the U.S.-Mexico border, according to the U.S. Marshals Service, which is in charge of the investigation.

Sampo is 5 feet 6 inches tall and weighs 180 pounds, officials said. She has a flower tattoo on her forearm.
