Boat Carrying 12 Migrants Stopped Off Coast Of Point Loma

Authorities said all 12 individuals aboard the vessel claimed Mexican nationality.

SAN DIEGO, CA — The U.S. Coast Guard stopped a boat carrying 12 migrants over the weekend off the coast of Point Loma.

The incident happened Sunday when a crew from Coast Guard Station San Diego interdicted a 35-foot vessel about 10 miles west of Point Loma, according to the Coast Guard. Coast Guard Station San Diego boarded the closed-cabin vessel around 1:30 p.m.

Authorities said all 12 individuals aboard the vessel claimed Mexican nationality. The migrants were transferred to the custody of U.S. Border Patrol in Imperial Beach.
