Coast Guard Stops Boat Carrying 11 Migrants Near La Jolla

Authorities said all 11 individuals aboard the vessel claimed Mexican nationality.

SAN DIEGO, CA — The U.S. Coast Guard stopped a boat carrying 11 migrants off the coast of San Diego, officials said.

The crew of Coast Guard Cutter Active intercepted a 20-foot cabin cruiser vessel at about 5 a.m. Saturday roughly 22 miles west of La Jolla, according to the Coast Guard. The boat had no navigational lights and multiple people on board.

Authorities said all 11 individuals aboard the vessel claimed Mexican nationality. The migrants were transferred Saturday afternoon to the custody of U.S. Border Patrol at Ballast Point.
