COVID Hospitalizations Slip While County Reports Nearly 2,000 New Infections

The number of people hospitalized with COVID, locally, fell to 304.

San Diego County’s Health and Human Services Agency reported nearly 2,000 new COVID-19 cases since the beginning of the week and three more deaths.

The breakdown of the 1,961 new positives so far this week:

  • Monday – 509
  • Tuesday – 608
  • Wednesday – 844

With the new cases the county’s coronavirus totals rose to 908,654 since the pandemic began in early 2020. The region’s death toll stands at 5,456.

The number of people hospitalized with COVID locally, meanwhile, fell to 304, according to the latest state data, with 33 of them needing intensive care.

The county has the second-highest total of COVID patients in the state, but less than half of those currently hospitalized in Los Angeles County. Riverside County ranks third.
