SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA — We've rounded up the stories you may have missed over the weekend to prepare you for the week ahead.
But before we jump into Southern California's top stories, residents should expect a chance of showers this week, according to the National Weather Service.
"June gloom will be in full force this week with night through morning low clouds fog occurring every day," NWS Los Angeles forecasters wrote Monday. "Most max temps will remain below normal through the week. A small warming trend will develop at the end of the week."

There will be a chance of showers for parts of Southern California, according to the NWS.
"A low pressure system from the northwest will deepen the marine layer into Wednesday and bring a chance of showers for the mountains, deserts, and inland valleys for Tuesday afternoon through Wednesday afternoon along with a chance of thunderstorms for Tuesday afternoon and evening and again for Wednesday afternoon," NWS San Diego forecasters wrote Monday.

In other news, police officer was fatally shot in the line of duty; a machete-wielding man killed a man and injured another; a brush fire prompted evacuation orders and warnings; federal immigration officials raided two restaurants; and three young males are accused of assaulting a transgender woman multiple times in a series of hate crimes.
Also, a new variant of COVID-19, which is currently dominant in China, is circulating in other parts of the world, including the United States, and it could affect California residents, health officials warn.
