Driver Fatally Injured In Crash, Damages Parked Vehicles In Mount Hope

Police officials said the driver was ejected from his SUV and pronounced dead at the scene.

SAN DIEGO, CA — A 24-year-old driver was killed when he lost control of his SUV and collided with a parked vehicle in the San Diego neighborhood Mount Hope, damaging three additional parked vehicles, authorities said Monday.

The accident occurred at around 10:50 p.m. Sunday when the driver behind the wheel of a Mazda CX5 plowed at a high rate of speed into a parked 1995 Jeep Wrangler along the east curb line at 400 42nd St., according to the San Diego Police Department.

Police officials said the driver was ejected from his SUV and pronounced deceased at the scene. His name was not immediately available.

It was unclear what prompted the crash, but it was reported he "left his residence after breaking glass items," police said.

The crash was under investigation.
