Wildfire Burns 350 Acres Near Campo; Evacuation Orders Remain In Place

As of Tuesday morning, the fire was holding at 350 acres and was 25% contained, according to Cal Fire.

CAMPO, CA — Crews worked overnight Monday to contain a fast-moving wildfire that scorched hundreds of acres, threatened structures and prompted evacuations in southeastern San Diego County.

The blaze, called the Posta 3 Fire, sparked around 2:30 p.m. Monday near the intersection of La Posta Road and Old Highway 80, north of the community of Campo, according to Cal Fire San Diego. As of Tuesday morning, the fire was holding at 350 acres and was 25% contained.

"Firefighters worked through the night to strengthen control lines and extinguished hot spots," Cal Fire officials said on X, formerly known as Twitter. "Firefighters will continue to remain engaged until the fire is fully contained."

Authorities issued evacuation orders and warnings for residents in the area. All evacuation orders and warnings remained in place as of Tuesday morning.

A shelter was established at Golden Acorn Casino at 1800 Golden Acorn Way in Campo. The San Diego County Animal Shelter at 5821 Sweetwater Road in Bonita was accepting large animals.

The following roads remained closed due to the fire: Crestwood Road at Old Highway 80, Church Road at SR-94, Old Highway 80 at Church Road, Old Highway 80 at La Posta Road, and La Posta Road a half-mile south of Old Highway 80.
