SAN DIEGO, CA — Fire crews Wednesday evening were battling a vegetation fire that has burned 25 acres near Otay Mountain.

The fire was reported around 7:15 p.m. Wednesday near the mountain north of the U.S.-Mexico border, according to Cal Fire San Diego. The exact location of the fire was unclear.

Ca lFire San Diego reported at 10:53 p.m. Wednesday that the fire had grown to 25 acres but firefighters had stopped its forward spread and it was 5% contained by lines of cleared vegetation.

A caller from Chula Vista informed the San Diego County Sheriff's Department of seeing a group of vehicles atop the mountain setting off fireworks, which may have started the fire, FOX5 reported.

The sheriff's department was working to locate the possible suspects.
