First Significant Rainstorm Of Season Brings Showers, Snow To Region

SAN DIEGO, CA — San Diego County's first significant rainstorm of the season brought totals Monday ranging from a quarter to half an inch near the coast to over an inch in the mountain slopes, according to the National Weather Service.

Overnight, isolated lightning strikes were reported, primarily over coastal waters and nearby land areas, but thunderstorm chances were expected to decrease by Monday morning.

Snow levels, which were near 3,500 to 4,000 feet early Monday, were forecast to rise to about 4,500 feet by the afternoon and fluctuate at that level through Wednesday.

A 15% chance of thunderstorms remained for county beaches through early Monday, with the possibility of cloud-to-ground lightning and brief gusty winds accompanying any storms that develop, according to forecasters.
