Here are the top stories in San Diego today:

  1. It’s been a tough year for Californians. The Golden State is one of the most expensive places to live. With the average price for regular gas at $4.63 last week, according to AAA, inflation is taking its toll on all of us. However, California's revenues are at an all-time high. On Monday, Gov. Gavin Newsom proposed his "$523-million-dollar gas tax holiday," a budget that would scale back taxes to offset the effects of inflation. To learn more: Click into parenthesis, then click the link. 2. Have a child aged 12 or older? The CDC now recommends a booster shot to help provide protection against the omicron variant. A booster would prevent the disease, would lessen symptoms, and would decrease the need for hospitalization. With more than 400 vaccination sites, the region has the capacity to meet the demand. 3. In his State of the City address, Mayor Todd Gloria discussed the issues that the City of San Diego is targeting and finding solutions for in his second year in office. He touched on the challenges of homelessness. “So, this year, I am pushing for state action on conservatorships so that people who cannot help themselves aren’t left vulnerable to the dangers of life on the streets,” Gloria said. He pushed for more permanent housing, increasing shelter beds and also helping those on the street who are dealing with substance abuse and/or mental illness.
