Picasso: Drawings and Prints, on view through Jan. 29, 2023, showcases 17 works on paper by the master, one ink drawing by another giant, Henri Matisse, as well as a ceramic piece by Picasso.
The pieces – to be featured on the second floor, in Gallery 20 – are from the museum’s Permanent Collection. The exhibition is curated by Michael A. Brown, Ph.D, curator of European art for the Balboa Park museum.

Picasso was born in Málaga, a historic port city on Spain’s southern coast, part of a middle-class family. His father, an art professor, relocated them several times during Picasso’s childhood, and he visited the Prado Museum for the first time in 1895.
After being educated in Madrid and Paris, eventually, Picasso, with artist Georges Braque, pioneered Cubism, an abstract art form that altered perspective with intersecting planes of space, and changed the course of international modernism.
