Increased DUI Patrols Planned Thanksgiving Weekend In San Diego County

SAN DIEGO, CA — The San Diego County Sheriff's Office will be out in force during Thanksgiving weekend, in an effort to stop intoxicated drivers and keep the roadways safe.
The department has planned extra DUI patrols from Wednesday, Nov. 27 through Sunday, Dec. 1. Sheriff's officials reminded the public not to drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs, which includes marijuana, over-the-counter drugs and prescription medications.
"Accidents caused by impaired driving are 100 percent preventable," Sheriff Kelly Martinez said. "Let's keep everyone safe this holiday weekend. Don't drink and drive."

So far in 2024, deputies have arrested nearly 900 people for impaired driving in San Diego County, according to the sheriff's office. An impaired driving arrest and conviction can cost more than $15,000 in legal and court fees.
Funding for the Thanksgiving impaired driving enforcement program was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
