JD Vance Heckled, Booed Leaving San Diego Restaurant

SAN DIEGO, CA — Vice President JD Vance was recently booed by a crowd as he left an upscale sushi restaurant in San Diego.

“I hope your Michelin star sushi was worth it, with 82 people dead in Texas,” one person can be heard saying in a video posted Sunday night on X. “Thanks for cutting the National Weather Service.”

Another heckler shouted that Vance should “get the hell out of San Diego,” and the crowd let out boos, punctuated by profane words and hand gestures, with one person calling Vance a fascist, as the vice president’s motorcade departed Soichi sushi restaurant.

Vance was dining Sunday at the restaurant, which has one Michelin star, with his wife, Usha, Newsweek reported. He was in the area to receive the Claremont Institute's Statesmanship Award on Saturday and to take part in a round table Monday, according to The New York Times.

The vice president's visit to the Golden State coincided with the unfolding aftermath of tragic flooding in Texas over the holiday weekend, where 118 people were confirmed dead as of Wednesday and over 160 were still missing.

Of the floods, Vance posted on X that “our nation’s heart breaks for the victims” and “they’re in the prayers of my family.”
