- Maybe someone you know has survived COVID-19 but has not bounced back to their normal state of health. Medical professionals are providing help for patients suffering with long-term COVID-19 effects. "For most patients dealing with post-COVID conditions — also known as 'long COVID' or 'chronic COVID' — they’re commonly experiencing symptoms such as fatigue, difficulty breathing, troubles with exertion and exercise, headaches, and a chronic cough," said Lucy Horton, an infectious disease specialist and associate professor of medicine at UCSD Health. Others have difficulty with brain fog which makes it impossible for them to return to their former jobs. To learn more: Click into parenthesis, then click the link. (fox5sandiego.com)
- Willie Morrow was a pioneer in Black hair care. He invented the 'Afro Tease,' commonly known as ‘the pick’ in the 1960s. He also created the 'Eze Teze' and the 'Blow Out Comb.' Later, he created an entire hair care line. Willie Morrow influenced culture across the country, but he began here in San Diego. Today Morrow is retired, but his daughter is working to continue his legacy as a San Diego Hair Care Pioneer in the Black community. To learn more: Click into parenthesis, then click the link. - During the pandemic, this 6th grader taught herself to sew by watching YouTube videos. Emery Kordower made face masks, dog scarves, scrunchies, and bags. She sold her wares on a website she started, and with half her profits, she bought her own sewing machine. She didn’t go on a shopping spree with the remaining cash. Instead, Emery Kordower donated the rest to Rady Children’s Hospital in San Diego. To learn more: Click into parenthesis, then click the link. (NBC San Diego)
